Finally an explanantion of Starwars that makes sense

This is one of these amazing black holes for time…

so, let’s see – one and a half minutes times 4.1 million makes about 102,500 hours, which at 8 hour per working day comes to 13,000 workdays (calculating in some sick time), which at 210 working days per year (weekends, vacation, holidays) comes to about 60 man-years.

Quite some mayor project, wondering how this compares this to Microsoft Vista. Anybody with an idea how many man-hours went into Vista?

But if we really want to see those two side by side, then Vista is probably a much bigger time black hole in terms of wasted time.

To save you some time in watching the clip a few more times to get all the girl had explained to us, here is a transcript by SuperTrekNerd:

“Well. Well. Okay. The sand people capture robots and drive, and sell ’em in a garage sale – kinda like a garage sale but except they’re selling robots. And no one’s gonna buy R2 and the shiny guy – the shiny guy always worries – Luke’s gonna buy those. And Obi Kenobi’s a kinda teacher. He’s teaching Luke how to learn how do to his little light-up-sword. He has to try to block the little pokie ball. He tried to do it without seeing. Obi Kenobi sometimes move things around, sometimes he disappears. Princess Leia got out a jail and out in the spaceship. And they got the big thing that blown up stuff, we blown it up together. It blown up Princess Leia’s planet. But don’t talk back to Darth Vader – he’ll get ya. It’s an exciting movie.”

And here somebody who really wanted to know and made it easier for all of us to remember what the girl was lecturing  on…

Now – how much time did I waste writing this blog post?

Huh, waste, schmaste – I had fun!

Does the TSA care about TSA Gangstaz Rap?

There is an interesting new video on YouTube (as of 2008), shooting at the TSA, which seems to become a hot item. Yesterday when I watched it, it had a few hundred views and today when I looked again it had some 35 thousand views.

So, I thought to blog about it and encourage more bloggers to blog about, and certainly add own experiences and stories to it.

Currently, the TSA might not care too much about it. The effect of their actions is too far removed from them. If they would feel the loss of revenue from people who decide not to fly anymore, the situation would be different. It appears there is no incentive for them to change – pretty much everybody hates them anyway, so what’s the harm in one more gangstaz rap?

The reason form me to spread the word is my belief that it is not too late to reach critical mass, and these guys are thrown out, even though they have a monopoly in violence. The voices of objection are getting louder and louder and fortunately, the tyrants don’t take action. If they had studied their tyrant manual properly they would know that only a loved tyrant is a successful tyrant, in the long run, so, please don’t tell them about this essential training manual, OK?

Hitler became a bad tyrant and had to suppress opposition with force, and what did that bring him? A rather short reign! So, let’s spread the word about this abuse of power and critical mass will be reached so much faster, and then we can get back to normal where public servants know that they are servants and behave accordingly…

Demonstrating the Effect of Immigration

Strange for me to write about the subject of immigration into the US because I am part of the problem, as I have immigrated. At least I was not one of those billions with less than two dollars per day …

Roy Beck explains why immigration from third world make no sense

I had noticed that not only the sheer numbers of people can destroy the way of life that is usually equated with the US of A. What I consider even more dangerous is the spirit that enters with immigrants from suppressive countries or countries that have a ruling class.

Why is that? As I see it, the problem is the immenseness of the difference. Take a person who grew up in a country where the king is a type of  ‘holy’ person. A person you can not criticize. Naturally, an immigrant will search for a substitute for such a ‘holy’ person when he or she becomes a citizen. And what is the natural choice – our king, speak, president.

I suppose this is the real reason that politicians like immigrants from those countries so much. They have it very easy to pretend to be the benevolent king or noble.

At least in this regard I, myself, have not added to the problem – just the opposite  – a US-born American once told me that he considered me to be a better American in the old spirit than he himself was. That was during a discussion about caving-in to government pressure by unquestioning writing a check when the IRS asks for money.

Comforting is the fact that this video is very popular on YouTube with over two million views and over 9000 comments. (Unfortunately, the original video had been taken out and the one above is a re-post with much less views.)

Tommy Emmanuel and Edgar Cruz, Guitar

While working on the new Joomla site NoFearIRS.com, testing some new media plugin for the new Joomla 1.5, I found this fascinating little video of Tommy Emmanuel playing the Guitar Boogie…

…and as I don’t want to just leave you with this feeling of inadequacy, here some lesson that will get you on the way to play just as well – in a few years or decades…

This is Edgar Cruz showing you how to play Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

Space – the Final Frontier – – Today

I subscribe to some NASA’s podcasts in iTunes and today I watched a video called “A Postcard from Opportunity.” For all of you who are not quite up-to-date – Opportunity and Spirit are the two rovers that NASA has landed on Mars a while ago with the idea that these two vehicles could roam the Martian surface for some 90 days, giving us some photography and other scientific data.

Against all odds and expectations these rovers have now lasted a multitude of their life expectancy. If you are interested in the details, you can find them at the NASA JPL web site.

I am a space buff and science fiction fan for pretty much all of my life, but only today when I watched this postcard from one of the rovers, it suddenly  really sank in that these are pictures from a different planet. It might not sound very impressive, but for me it made a shift – and I really wanna go now!

Photoshop Exposes Optical Illusion

One of these optical illusions came across my desk again…

optical illusion

which claims that the fields marked A and B have the same gray level. Just looking at the image it is obvious that this could not possibly be. So, normally, the untrained non-scientific mind would push it aside, maybe say, wow, really?! and wander on.

But this is where I came in – a trained scientist! And this scientist now really had enough of this and went on the quest to look for himself.

I started up trusty photoshop, zoomed into an area that contained both the fields A and B, cut a bit out of field A and dragged it next to field B …

optical illusion demonstrated

And what do you know? When the cut out little square from A is right next to field B, it is very clear that they are the same shade of gray – quod erat demimonstrum!

And we still trust our eyes? A little shadow so that the eye ‘thinks’ that the field must be brighter, makes it brighter for the eye. Could not help contemplating how many things there are that I don’t see and how many things I see that are not there.

UPDATE:

I was really surprised that there was so much discussion about this relatively irrelevant subject, but it went even further than somebody even accusing me of cheating. Somebody made a life-action demonstration this this little optical illusion and I just have to share this here:

Careful – Totally Contagious Baby Laughs

I revisited on old blog post and found that the video did not work any more. So I had to hunt down the clip and found it again on YouTube.

Man, is this good, I try to imagine to have a baby like this – you would either end up with abs of steel or eventually have to sell the baby because it’s too painful on the belly…

It appears that I am not the only one to like this video – it has been viewed 36 MILLION times as of this writing!

Update: that video with the 35 million views was gone when I checked back – but I found it again, this time with only 18 million – – but if we add all that up – how much time has mankind wasted watching that baby?

I hope that Google is really not evil

Did this ever happen to you…

The first time I had this happen to me, I have to admit, it was rather creepy. But since then I got so much used to it that I hardly ever notice the Google guy standing in my living room.

The only times I do still get a bit freaked out is when I look for this kind of amateur two-some and the Google guy enters my bedroom. But I think just a few weeks and I will also be used to that.

I remember it was Mel Brooks in his movie Space Balls who invented this kind of concept. Watching a movie about the own situation and then fast forwarding to find out what will happen. Wonder if Google pays Mel Brooks some kind of intellectual property fees?

All of Chris Crocker, Obama Girl, Battle at Kruger and Esmee Denters on YouTube

While getting my morning fix of news from BoingBoing and Slashdot I read this one post about the ultimate in YouTube videos of the year as it is now coming to an end. I think it was on Slashdot, but I don’t quite find it anymore, otherwise, I would have added the link to it here.

This post had the shortcoming of not linking to those ‘most’ viewed-commented-influential-etc videos and I had to go hunting. Obviously, that cost me quite some time because when on YouTube you not only watch that one video you came for – or am I the only one getting stuck all the time?

In order to save you some time I am now giving you all these ‘most-ed’ videos – can you believe 21 million views for the Battle of Kruger (as of this writing in 2007)?

OK, let’s get going, the first I found was the Obama Girl, singing out her little heart about her crush on Mr. Obama with about 4.5 million views and nearly 14,000 comments:

Then I enjoyed Chris Crocker defending Britney Spears in his piece ‘Leave Britney Alone’. About 14 million had watched it before me and over 200,000 had commented:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHmvkRoEowc (sorry – no embed allowed)

As mentioned above, ‘The Battle at Kruger” had been watched way over 20 million times and I actually was one of them. I had watched it when it was going all over the internet, but I was not one of the only 19 thousand who had left comments:

And last but not least I watched a bit of Esmee Denters rendition of Justin Timberlake’s “What goes around.” About 13 million had watched this one and about 60 thousand had had the urge to comment. First, I did not quite get what the attraction of specifically this video is. Yes, Esmee seems to have that spark in her personality and she certainly is pretty, but then I investigated some more, checked out her other recordings and I have to admit, she grabbed the opportunity and went with it. I have to admit that I am impressed. And now, see for yourself:

I think these are all very nice examples of the factor of ‘critical mass’.

Just trying to imagine how much time all this has cost mankind. The battle at Kruger alone – 20,000,000 times 8 minutes – before you read on, just make a wild guess, how much time that is…

Over 300 years!

So, whattaya think, was that worth it?

One or Two Tubatrons – Flaming Tubas

Watching boing boing tv today I leaned that it is David Silverman, the Simpson’s director, who mans this most dangerous instrument.

I had seen and enjoyed a video clip from what looks like burning man of a man playing “Oops I did it again” (Britney Spears). The accompanying text on the YouTube video does not mention David Silverman, so I am now wondering if Silverman is really the only Tubatron player in the world, or if there is another doing this at burning man.

But whoever it is – it’s definitely worth watching.
